Forty First Edition 9/2/2026

It’s that time of year again! We often say this as the next important event on the calendar rolls around. However, parents know what time it is! Back to school. For some this means a respite from the chaotic action-packed summer “break”. For others, it’s a moment of sadness as we realize the years are flying by and our kids are moving on to the next grade. For many parents, it’s a bittersweet time. Knowing we can’t stop time we move to the next logical question. How can we make the most of the time (and this school year). As you prepare, here are some tips for you.

Let the Spirit lead: School events will pack our schedule but as parents we still get to decide what our family will focus on this school year. Start the year by praying “Lord, help us to stay focused on you this semester.” Or “Father, give us intentionality and balance with family time and busyness”. And “God grow us in Christ this year.” Don’t be a slave to the schedule. Be a slave to the Spirit of God.

Pray for your children: Make it a habit to pray with your children before school each day. Pray in their bedrooms, in the kitchen, or on the drive to school. It doesn't matter where but just pray. Pray blessing, protection, and grace over them. Pray generally. Pray specifically. Just pray. They need this more than you realize. You need this more than you realize.

Embrace new habits: As schedules change so do routines. Maximize the opportunity to set up new habits each day. Habits could include reading the Bible before school, eating together as a family, or a designated 15-30 minutes of tech (and distraction) free family time each night. Set a time, find a place, make a commitment, build a habit. The school year doesn’t get to dictate our priorities. We do!

Meet new people: Regardless of whether you advocate for homeschool, public school, or private school, they all have this in common; Each one is a mission field! As everyday missionaries get out of your comfort zone to get to know school administrators, teachers, paras, and other parents. Look for ways to bless and build relationships. Invite them to church. Share the gospel. School isn’t just a mission field for your kids – it’s a mission field for you! You are where you are for such a time as this.

Don’t waste it: Whatever you do this semester, do it as worship to the Lord. We don’t exist to just “get through” the school year. We only get to do this once so let’s make the most of it. Let’s go all out. Avoiding exhaustion is not our goal (although this would be nice!). Our goal is to glorify God in every season and every circumstance. If you have a “let’s just get through it” mentality then so will your kids. That’s a way to live but it’s not the best way to live. God has more for us!

Spend some time talking to the Lord about this school year. Let God lead this year. Bathe it in prayer. Grow in the Lord. See it as a mission field. Worship no matter what comes your way.

Someone just moved halfway around the world to Hutchinson because of CrossPoint.

Okay… that’s not exactly the whole story. But it’s closer than you might think.

Recently, we met a student from Brazil who told us CrossPoint played a part in her decision to come to Hutchinson. When she was considering the move, a friend told her about her experience at CrossPoint Challenge and the impact the church had made in her life. Knowing she would arrive in a new country with a Bible-believing church committed to the mission of the gospel made saying yes a whole lot easier.

Think about that for a moment. While we’re praying, giving, and sending people to carry the gospel to communities around the world, God is also bringing the nations right to our doorstep.

And maybe that’s one of the beautiful pictures of what it means to be Compassionate Servants. We go wherever God sends us, and we’re ready to receive whoever God sends to us.

That’s the posture we’re carrying into fall in Hutchinson. On September 20, we’ll add a third Sunday service, giving us four weekend gatherings and making room for people God continues to bring.

We enter this season with plenty to celebrate, including our first VBS in decades, baptisms, families finding community, and people stepping into serving and discipleship.

Our goal isn’t simply to fill another service. It’s to keep making room for ordinary people to be changed by Jesus to do extraordinary things, and send them out to do the same.

How You Can Pray

1. Pray that we’re ready for who God sends. As we launch four weekend services, pray for volunteers, leaders, energy, unity, and a church family willing to make room for people who aren’t here yet.

2. Pray that we grow deep as we grow wide. Ask God to make us more than a growing church. Pray that we would increasingly become surrendered worshippers, maturing followers, compassionate servants, and Kingdom multipliers.

3. Pray for our community and the nations among us. Pray that we would faithfully carry the gospel into our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, college campuses, and beyond, and recognize the opportunities God places right in front of us.

Summer is giving way to the rhythms of school, work, and sports. Calendars are filling up, and routines are finding their place again. What a natural time for us as God’s people to embrace this moment in our culture and remind the people in our communities: you belong.

That’s the heartbeat of Everybody Weekend (September 19-20). We want to lean into the momentum in our culture, with some unified energy and focus to create space for more people to engage with the Good News of Christ, that God doesn’t just save us from our sin and brokenness but He saves us into His family. This is what belonging is all about.

For through [Christ] we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God. Ephesians 2:18-19

It is the joy of those who have freely received to freely give to those around them. As those who have been welcomed into God’s family, how can we not extend that invitation to others? And just like you would make sure you have an open chair for the friend you invited over for dinner, we want to do the same for Everybody Weekend. We want to make room at the table, to intentionally prepare so that when new people walk through the doors, they know without a doubt: we were expecting you.

This means investing in people before they arrive and making sure we are ready when they do. It means stepping up to serve and show hospitality to our guests. It means praying for people by name and being ready to help them take their next step with Christ. It means asking God to draw people to Himself and to use us as His instruments. It means being Everyday Missionaries in the places we live, work, learn, and play.

This is why we talk about Invest and Invite. As one church in many places, we want to be united in praying for specific people who need the gospel and taking bold steps to invite them. Imagine what could happen if hundreds of us took this seriously. If every family invited neighbors. If every student reached out to friends and classmates. If every one of us chose to make room at the table.

So here’s the call: Pray with expectation for God to work. Invest in neighbors, co-workers, and classmates. Invite those God puts on your heart. Let’s make room and be ready to welcome everybody to the table, believing that together God will use us in a powerful way to remind everybody in our communities: you belong.
